Works at City Gate have made a significant difference to residents’ day-to-day access, particularly for wheelchair users, families with pushchairs and those with reduced mobility.

The timber retaining wall supporting the stairs and ramp from the car park had deteriorated over time, causing soil and mud to spill onto the pathways, particularly during wet weather. This made access difficult and, at times, prevented residents from using the routes comfortably.

The old timber structures were removed and replaced with a new, durable block retaining wall. The surrounding ground was also reinstated and stabilised, ensuring the stairs, ramp and pathways are now accessible and usable throughout the year.

Despite challenging winter weather and difficult ground conditions, the works were carefully managed and completed to a high standard
